Our client a law firm is looking to find an experienced Intellectual Property Litigation Associate for a contract engagement. The firm's busy litigation team needs a seasoned associate who can make an immediate impact while members of the team are out on leave.
This role is for someone who can take ownership of matters from day one. You'll handle sophisticated patent, trademark, and copyright disputes, working directly with partners and clients with limited supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Handle sophisticated intellectual property disputes for firm clients, primarily in federal district court
- Take first-draft responsibility for pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery motions, and pre-trial submissions
- Participate in case strategy and planning alongside partners
- Manage discovery from start to finish, including written discovery, ESI, and document review strategy
- Work with experts and support expert discovery
- Take and defend fact and expert depositions
- Argue discovery and substantive motions where appropriate
- Support hearings and trial preparation
- Assist with matters before the TTAB and PTAB, where applicable
- Communicate directly with partners and clients
- Manage deadlines and competing priorities across multiple active matters, and proactively identify what needs to be done
Requirements:
- 5+ years of IP litigation experience
- Substantial federal court litigation experience
- Experience drafting substantive federal court filings, including pleadings and motions
- Experience managing discovery and taking or defending depositions
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Ability to quickly grasp complex legal and factual issues
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and comfort working directly with partners and clients
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Admission in good standing in New York, or admission elsewhere with eligibility for New York admission
- Availability for full-time hours for about 3–6 months, starting ASAP
