Job Description:
  • Collaborating with other members of the tax team and external service providers to manage the day-to-day tax compliance function, including preparing tax workpapers for third-party preparers, reviewing federal, state and local tax returns, estimates and extensions for the REIT, its subsidiaries and private funds managed by the Company (the “Private Funds”) and managing and responding inquiries, notices and audits from the IRS and other tax authorities.
  • Assist with tax-related investor reporting requirements for the Private Funds, including tax allocations, Schedule K-1s, withholding, and disclosures.
  • Preparing tax amortization or accretion calculation for premium or discount on debt instruments held by the Company or its Private Funds, including reviewing and analyzing cash flows, assumptions and underlying documents from a federal income tax perspective.
  • Working closely with other members of the tax and accounting teams to prepare taxable income calculations, disclosures, REIT and 40 Act testing, and E&P analysis for monthly and quarterly reporting, compliance and forecasting purposes.
  • Preparing ASC 740 tax provision workpapers, accruals, and related disclosures and maintaining supporting documentation.
  • Maintaining the Company’s portfolio on a tax basis in the Company’s accounting systems, including coordinating across teams to obtain necessary information for new deals and participating in the development, implementation and testing of new systems and the automation of processes and reports.
  • Assisting with REIT diligence in connection with contemplated acquisitions and capital markets activities.
  • Researching issues and drafting memos documenting the application of relevant tax law.

Requirements / Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of relevant tax experience, experience with mortgage-backed securities and REITs a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and/or Taxation, MST or MBA Preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Excel
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Highly organized
