Job Description:
- Own overall tax compliance processes for assigned entities, including developing and managing prioritized tax planning activities and supervising external and internal resources.
- Resolve complex technical tax issues, consult with subject-matter experts, prepare memorandums, and communicate research findings to senior management in a clear, synthesized manner.
- Review tax returns and related workpapers for trusts, individuals, philanthropic entities, operating businesses, and investment entities prepared by third-party service providers.
- Manage relationships with external advisors, including oversight of budgets, billings, and engagement letters.
- Liaise with attorneys, trustees, accountants, real estate brokers, and other external advisors on family-directed strategies and initiatives.
- Serve as an in-house tax resource for other departments across the organization.
- Lead or participate in cross-functional projects, providing leadership on value-added initiatives and supporting operational and departmental excellence.
- Manage tax audits and respond to inquiries and notices from taxing authorities.
- Take on additional duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications:
- 12+ years of recent experience in tax compliance, research, and planning for high-net-worth individuals, flow-through entities, and trusts within a public accounting firm, family office, or wealth management tax department.
- 5+ years of managerial experience overseeing tax compliance processes, including resource allocation and budgeting.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting or a related field.
- CPA and/or JD preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A high level of organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong work ethic and the ability to grasp complex tax issues and synthesize them for key stakeholders.
